Invitae Hereditary Breast Cancer Panel
Use
The Invitae Hereditary Breast Cancer Panel analyzes genes associated with a predisposition to adult-onset breast cancer. It provides an efficient evaluation of several potential genes based on a single clinical indication, which may help confirm a clinical diagnosis, predict disease prognosis, facilitate early detection, inform family planning, or promote enrollment in clinical trials. This test is specifically designed for heritable germline mutations and is not appropriate for the detection of somatic mutations in tumor tissue.
Special Instructions
This is a germline genetic test and should not be used for detecting somatic mutations. Genetic counseling is recommended to correctly interpret the results.
Limitations
The test has >99% analytical sensitivity and specificity for single nucleotide variants, insertions, deletions <15bp, and exon-level deletions/duplications. Larger insertions/deletions, structural rearrangements, non-coding regions, mosaicism, and complex sequences may not be fully detected. DNA may not represent constitutional genome in rare cases.
