Aerobic Culture, Extended Incubation
Use
Isolate and identify potentially pathogenic aerobic organisms for which extended incubation may be required. For additional information on aerobic cultures, see Aerobic Bacterial Culture, General [008649].
Special Instructions
This test involves extended incubation of the aerobic culture, typically taking 9 to 15 days from the date of specimen pickup to result release. Extended incubation is important for detecting slow-growing aerobic bacteria.
Limitations
The test is limited to aerobic organisms and may not detect anaerobic bacteria or organisms that do not grow in the provided incubation conditions. Susceptibility testing is performed only if the isolated organisms meet specific criteria for clinical significance.
