Aerobic Organism Identification
Also known as: MC ORG
Use
The Aerobic Organism Identification test is used to identify aerobic bacterial isolates from pure cultures. This test is crucial when handling potential agents of bioterrorism, where it is advised to notify the state health department and refer isolates to the state laboratory for further identification. The test is integral in identifying clinically significant isolates which aids in appropriate clinical management and decision making regarding further susceptibility testing, if necessary.
Special Instructions
An additional processing fee will be billed for mixed cultures as indicated in the specimen requirements. When handling potential bioterrorism agents, notify the health department and use state lab resources for comprehensive testing.
Limitations
This test cannot perform susceptibility testing on bioterrorism agents at ARUP. Mixed cultures or non-viable organisms are unacceptable specimens. Identification solely by 16S rDNA sequencing is not available within this test; separate orders are required for such analysis. The compliance category varies based on specimen source, and additional processing fees may apply.
