Reference Bacterial Culture Identification
Also known as: Identification of Atypical Bacteria
Use
Identify atypical bacterial isolates that require complex testing methods
Special Instructions
Store the bacterial isolate at room temperature. Ensure that the specimen is properly labeled, as unlabeled specimens or those with a name discrepancy between specimen and test request labels may be rejected. Use a bacterial swab transport inoculated with the isolate from a pure culture or an agar slant in a screw-cap container.
Limitations
This test may be limited by the type of bacterial isolates it can identify, as it relies on classical conventional biochemical testing and/or gas-liquid chromatography (GLC). Mixed cultures or broken tubes may cause the specimen to be rejected. Additionally, some atypical bacterial isolates might require further confirmatory or reflex testing to achieve a conclusive identification, extending the turnaround time. The results are also dependent on the quality and viability of the submitted bacterial cultures.
