Allergen Profile, Sesame, IgE With Component Reflex
Use
This test supports the diagnosis of sesame allergy by detection of sIgE antibodies to levels to Ses i 1.
Special Instructions
The test includes measurement for Sesame IgE (whole) and reflex criteria: if Sesame (whole) IgE is greater than or equal to 0.10 kU/L, then Ses i 1 will be performed at an additional charge. Clinical context and history are essential in interpreting results, which cannot replace an oral food challenge.
Limitations
Allergen-specific IgE assays lack absolute predictive values for determining allergic disease. They help evaluate sensitization but are insufficient for definitive diagnosis. CRD offers improved evaluation of polysensitized individuals but cannot fully replace clinical history and oral food challenges. Immunological cross-reactivity between various allergen components can cause reactions absent from whole extracts or components tested.
