Allergen, Food, Sesame Seed With Reflex to Component, IgE
Also known as: SESAME R
Use
This test is used to measure the amount of IgE antibodies specific to sesame seed allergens in the blood, which helps in identifying the risk of allergic reactions. It is crucial for understanding the potential for IgE-mediated allergic responses to sesame seeds in patients. The results can assist clinicians in determining an individual's allergic sensitivity to sesame seeds, aiding in diagnosis and management of food allergies.
Special Instructions
This assay will reflex to the Sesame rSes i 1 component if the result is 0.35 kU/L or higher, resulting in additional charges. Patient interactions should be minimized during specimen collection.
Limitations
While increasing concentrations of allergen-specific IgE reflect higher amounts of the antibody, they might not correlate directly with the severity of a clinical allergic response or skin test results. A negative result does not rule out the possibility of a clinical allergy or anaphylaxis, making it important to corroborate laboratory findings with clinical history and response to allergens in vivo.
