Allergen Profile, Food Basic with Component Reflexes
Use
This profile screens for immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated sensitivity to the nine most common food allergen groups — the “Big Nine” — including egg, milk, fish, crustacean shellfish, peanut, tree nuts, sesame, soy, and wheat. Reflex component testing (e.g., ImmunoCAP™) is automatically performed for certain allergens (milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, sesame, wheat) that test positive, providing more precise diagnostic information to support clinical management plans.
Special Instructions
Orders a single blood draw. No additional blood is needed for reflex component testing when initial whole-allergen tests are positive. Component reflexes run automatically per Labcorp’s protocol without requiring a separate order.
Limitations
sIgE assays do not confer absolute predictive values for allergic disease and should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical history and, when appropriate, oral food challenges. Component testing may improve diagnostic resolution but does not fully replace clinical evaluation and oral challenges.
