Use
This test evaluates the presence and concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in serum against a panel of common food allergens: Corn, Egg White, Milk (Cow's), Orange, Peanut, Shrimp, Soybean, and Wheat. The results are intended to aid in the clinical diagnosis of food allergies, and should be interpreted in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and allergy symptoms to assess the risk of IgE-mediated allergic reactions.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided. It is important to separate serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection to ensure accurate results. Transfer the serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube for processing.
Limitations
The test quantifies concentrations of allergen-specific IgE antibodies, which may not directly correlate with clinical response or skin testing results. A negative test result does not rule out the possibility of a clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Concentrations in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are for specialist use but the clinical significance remains undetermined.
