Food Allergy Profile
Also known as: ImmunoCAP®
Use
This test measures immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in the blood against a panel of 15 common food allergens. It aids in identifying sensitization to foods such as almond, cashew, codfish, cow’s milk, egg white, hazelnut, peanut, salmon, scallop, sesame seed, shrimp, soybean, tuna, walnut, and wheat. A positive IgE result suggests an increased likelihood of food allergy but must be interpreted alongside clinical correlation, as it does not confirm allergy severity or diagnosis on its own.
Special Instructions
If results for peanut, milk, or egg antibodies are abnormal, additional more specific component tests are reflexively performed on the same sample at no additional charge.
Limitations
Results for IgE antibodies alone cannot confirm an allergy or predict severity of reaction; they must be interpreted with medical history and clinical assessment. Blood test results may differ from skin-prick tests, and only a healthcare provider can diagnose an allergy and determine treatment.
