Allergen Profile, Nut, IgE With Component Reflexes
Use
The Allergen Profile, Nut, IgE With Component Reflexes is a diagnostic tool used to measure specific IgE antibodies to a profile of nut allergens. This helps in the assessment and management of patients with suspected nut allergies, guiding dietary and management decisions for individuals showing allergic reactions. Nut allergies can lead to severe reactions, and understanding specific sensitivity helps in avoiding exposure and planning emergency interventions.
Special Instructions
Reflex criteria: If brazil nut, cashew nut, hazelnut/filbert, peanut (whole), and/or walnut IgE levels are ≥0.10 kU/L, specific component tests for major allergenic proteins of these nuts will be automatically performed without additional order requests.
Limitations
The test measures IgE antibodies specific to a selected profile of nuts and their components. Results must be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history, as IgE levels can be affected by factors such as age, presence of other atopic diseases, and recent allergic exposures. False-positive and false-negative results are possible, and further clinical evaluation is recommended to confirm any diagnosis.
