Allergens, Food, Nut Mix Profile
Also known as: NUT MIX
Use
The Allergens, Food, Nut Mix Profile is designed to quantitatively measure allergen-specific IgE levels for common nut allergens including almond, coconut, peanut, pecan, and sesame seed. These levels help in assessing the probability of IgE-mediated clinical reactions. The interpretation of the IgE levels must be done in conjunction with clinical history and in vivo reactivity tests as IgE concentration may not directly correlate with clinical symptoms.
Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters and collect in a serum separator tube. Ensure serum separation from cells is done as soon as possible or within two hours of collection. The specimen should be transferred into an ARUP standard transport tube.
Limitations
IgE concentration levels may not correlate with the actual degree of clinical response or skin testing results. A negative test result does not rule out the possibility of a clinical allergy or even anaphylaxis. Results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are of undetermined clinical relevance, and further specialist consultation may be required. The interpretation must consider the entire clinical context.
