Childhood Allergy (Food and Environmental) Panel with Reflexes
Also known as: ImmunoCAP®
Use
This panel assesses IgE-mediated sensitization in children to a range of common food and environmental allergens, facilitating identification of likely triggers of allergic reactions including asthma, eczema, hives, or food-related symptoms. Reflex testing to component panels (e.g., milk, egg, peanut) allows deeper diagnostic insight when specific allergen IgE thresholds are met, helping guide clinical management.
Special Instructions
Includes reflex to component panels (e.g., Milk Component Panel, Peanut Component Panel) when preliminary IgE results exceed defined thresholds. Performing site: Quest Diagnostics, Clifton. Test retired in February 2025; alternatives include codes 36765 and 36766. Ordering requires no special patient preparation as it's a blood IgE immunoassay panel. Interface mapping indicates true reflex constructs requiring unit codes to be built separately.
Limitations
A positive IgE result indicates sensitization but does not confirm clinical allergy or predict reaction severity; results must be interpreted alongside clinical history and other diagnostic modalities. The panel has been discontinued effective February 24, 2025, and replaced by newer alternatives; clinicians should transition to updated panels.
