Allergens, Food, Profile 10
Also known as: FOODPRO 10
Use
The test measures specific IgE antibodies for various food allergens, which helps in assessing the likelihood of allergic reactions. It includes a panel of 10 specific food allergens, providing a quantitative measure that aids in evaluating potential food allergies. Understanding IgE levels in reaction to certain foods can assist in the diagnosis and management of allergic conditions, though these results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical history and physical examination.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided during specimen collection to ensure accuracy. It is advisable to use a serum separator tube and process the serum quickly after collection to maintain sample integrity.
Limitations
Although IgE concentrations can indicate sensitization to specific allergens, they do not necessarily correlate with the severity of an allergic reaction or predict skin test results. Levels within the 0.10-0.34 kU/L range have an unclear clinical relevance and should be interpreted by specialists. A negative result does not exclude the possibility of an allergy or anaphylaxis, hence clinical correlation is essential.
