Allergen, Food, Sesame Seed
Also known as: SESAME
Use
This test is used to measure the level of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to sesame seed in the blood, which can help in diagnosing allergic reactions to sesame. However, the presence of IgE antibodies does not always predict the occurrence or severity of allergic symptoms. A thorough clinical assessment, including patient history and other diagnostic tests, is essential to correlate IgE levels with clinical allergy.
Special Instructions
Ensure serum is separated from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection. For multiple allergen orders, refer to 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions'.
Limitations
This test only measures the presence of IgE antibodies specific to sesame seed and does not confirm clinical allergy. Results should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history, and in vivo reactivity to the allergen. A negative result does not rule out food allergy or anaphylaxis to sesame. The IgE concentrations may not correlate with the severity of allergic response.
