Allergen Profile, Walnut, IgE Components
Use
Component‑resolved diagnostics (CRD) allow measurement of specific IgE to individual purified or recombinant walnut components rather than whole-extract, enabling differentiation between primary versus cross‑reactive sensitization, improved risk assessment for severity (systemic versus localized reactions), and better allergy management clinically. Specifically, sensitization to Jug r 1 (2S albumin, storage protein) is associated with primary walnut allergy and systemic reactions, while sensitization to Jug r 3 (lipid transfer protein) may indicate risk of both local and systemic reactions and cross‑reactivity with other LTP‑containing foods such as peach, apple, grapes.
