ANA 12 Plus Profile, Do All (RDL)
Also known as: ANA 12 Plus, ANA 12 Plus Panel
Use
The ANA test detects autoantibodies that bind to the nuclear components of HEp‐2 cells. A positive ANA titer is not specific, but indicates the presence of one or more autoantibodies. Profiles of specific autoantibodies have diagnostic andpotential prognostic utility for several autoimmune diseases.
Special Instructions
ANA performed by Indirect Fluorescent Antibody (IFA).
Limitations
This test was developed and performance characteristics determined by Labcorp and has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. A positive ANA titer is not specific and can indicate the presence of one or more autoantibodies. It is important to note that this test should not be used as the sole determinant for diagnosis but as part of a comprehensive clinical evaluation. Interpretation of results should consider clinical and other laboratory findings. Anticardiolipin antibodies can be elevated transiently due to infections or spuriously increased in the presence of rheumatoid factor, adding complexity to interpretations related to Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) classification when based solely on high titer anticardiolipin antibodies.
