ANA by IFA, Reflex to 11-biomarker Profile, dsDNA, RNP, Sm, SS-A, SS-B, Scl-70, Chromatin, Jo-1, Centromere B, Sm/RNP, Ribosomal P by Multiplex Immunoassay
Also known as: ANA by IFA Reflex
Use
Assay for screening for ANAs in patients suspected of having connective tissue disease. The indirect immunofluorescent test has three elements to consider in the result:
Special Instructions
If a reflex test is performed, additional charges/CPT code(s) may apply. The test involves an indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA) and multiplex flow immunoassay to assess the presence of ANAs.
Limitations
Patients older than 80 years have a 50% incidence of low titer ANA. Certain medications can induce a lupoid condition and elevated ANA titers, which usually decrease once the drug is discontinued. Low antibody levels may occur in diseases other than connective tissue diseases, reducing the diagnostic specificity of the test for such conditions.
