ANA Profile 12 (RDL)
Also known as: ANA 12, ANA 12 Panel
Use
The ANA test detects autoantibodies that bind to the nuclear components of HEp-2 cells. A positive ANA titer is not specific, but indicates the presence of one or more autoantibodies. Profiles of specific autoantibodies have diagnostic and potential prognostic utility for several autoimmune diseases.
Special Instructions
If the antinuclear antibodies titer is positive, all tests listed are performed. If negative, an Anti-Ro (SS-A) Ab test is conducted to catch potential false negatives. The ANA Profile 12 is reflexive and includes Anti-Nuclear Ab by IFA, Anti-Cardiolipin Ab (IgG, IgA, IgM), Anti-Centromere Ab, Anti-dsDNA by Farr, Anti-La (SS-B) Ab, Anti-Ro (SS-A), Anti-Scl-70 Ab, Anti-Sm, Anti-TPO Ab, and C3/C4 Complements. To order non-reflexive versions, refer to Test No. 520175.
Limitations
This test was developed by Labcorp and its performance characteristics have not been cleared or approved by the FDA. While a positive ANA titer indicates the presence of one or more autoantibodies, this is not disease-specific on its own.
