Anti-Histone Ab (RDL)
Use
Aids in the diagnosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), drug-induced SLE and related connective tissue diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, dermatomyositis and Sjogren's Syndrome. Determination of the patient's histone antibody status may be useful in the differential diagnosis between SLE and drug-induced SLE.
Special Instructions
Separate serum from cells within one hour of collection and transfer to a plastic transport tube before shipping. Ensure that each frozen sample is submitted separately for multiple tests to avoid delays in turnaround time.
Limitations
The test may not differentiate between different types of connective tissue diseases. It is also not a definitive diagnostic tool for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) or drug-induced SLE, as these conditions can present with overlapping symptoms and some patients may test negative despite disease presence. Grossly hemolyzed, bacterial contamination, lipemic specimens, icteric specimens, and non-serum specimen types are causes for rejection.
