Bacterial Vaginosis, Sialidase Activity
Also known as: BV (Sialidase) Activity, Vaginitis, Vaginosis
Use
Enzyme activity test for use in the detection of vaginal fluid specimens for sialidase activity, an enzyme produced by bacteria associated with bacterial vaginitis, including Bacteroides spp, Prevotella spp, and Mobiluncus spp and some G vaginalis. In a recent study, Bradshaw et al demonstrated the test to be 88% sensitive and 95% specific.

Not provided.
Limitations
The test may give false-negative results if the specimen is insufficient or taken from patients undergoing antimicrobial therapy. Collecting specimens from inappropriate locations such as the cervix, or after the use of vaginal products, can also compromise the accuracy of the test results.
