Benztropine, Serum or Plasma
Also known as: Cogentin®
Use
Therapeutic drug management
Special Instructions
Trough levels are most reproducible, and it is recommended to obtain the sample just before the next dose. It is important to separate serum or plasma from cells within two hours of collection and transport the specimen in a plastic transport tube. Avoid using gel-barrier tubes as they are not recommended for this test.
Limitations
The limitations of the Benztropine, Serum or Plasma test include its reliance on appropriate specimen handling and storage. Failure to separate the serum or plasma from cells within the specified time frame may lead to inaccurate results. Additionally, the use of gel-barrier tubes can affect the integrity of the specimen and lead to rejection. The assay may not detect extremely low levels of the drug; therefore, clinical correlation is necessary for interpretation of results.
