Brome, Smooth
Also known as: Smooth Brome
Use
This test measures the level of specific IgE antibodies to Brome, Smooth. It is used to detect allergic sensitization and to aid in the clinical diagnosis of allergic diseases, such as allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma, or allergic conjunctivitis related to exposure to this specific allergen. By determining the presence and level of IgE antibodies, healthcare providers can better understand the patient's allergic responses and manage their symptoms.
Special Instructions
The test is conducted using the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP methodology, a well-established assay for assessing allergen-specific IgE levels. Specimens should be collected in a red-top or gel-barrier tube, and it is important to ensure that the serum is stable through multiple freeze/thaw cycles, up to three times, which is relevant for handling and processing patient samples.
Limitations
While the test helps in identifying specific allergen sensitization, it should not be used in isolation to diagnose allergies. Clinical correlation with patient history and other diagnostic tools are necessary to accurately diagnose allergic conditions. Furthermore, the presence of IgE antibodies may not directly correlate with clinical symptoms, as tolerance levels vary among individuals. The test does not assess non-IgE mediated allergies or intolerances, and false positives/negatives can occur.
