Allergen, Grass, Brome Grass
Also known as: BROMEGRASS
Use
The Allergen, Grass, Brome Grass test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the serum to assess allergic reactions to Brome Grass. The results help in identifying individuals who may have allergies to this specific grass allergen, which can cause symptoms such as rhinitis and asthma upon exposure. Interpretation of IgE levels assists clinicians in managing and treating allergic patients by correlating laboratory findings with clinical history and symptoms of allergy.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure accuracy and reliability of the test results. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, preferably within 2 hours of collection, and transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Proper specimen handling is critical to avoid adverse effects on test outcomes.
Limitations
The test may not fully correlate with the degree of actual allergic reaction or skin test results. Allergen results of 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted by specialists. The presence of allergen-specific IgE depends on various factors, and a negative test does not rule out allergies or anaphylaxis. It is essential to consider the complete clinical picture, including patient history and symptomatology, when evaluating test results.
