Allergen Profile, Seasonal Allergen, Summer−Grass
Use
The Allergen Profile, Seasonal Allergen, Summer-Grass test is used to detect specific IgE antibodies to a panel of common summer grass pollens. This test is useful for evaluating individuals with suspected allergic rhinitis or asthma associated with seasonal allergens. Detecting specific IgE can assist in diagnosing allergic reactions, determining the responsible allergens, and guiding treatment approaches such as immunotherapy or allergen avoidance strategies.
Special Instructions
Collect serum using a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. Ensure the specimen is properly labeled and avoid gross hemolysis to prevent rejection.
Limitations
The presence of IgE antibodies does not always correlate with clinical symptoms, as individuals may have detectable IgE to certain allergens without exhibiting allergic reactions. False positives may occur, and the test does not quantify the severity of allergic reactions. The assay's sensitivity and specificity may vary between different allergen epitopes. Additionally, cross-reactivity with non-target allergens can occur, potentially affecting test accuracy.
