Allergen, Grass, June Grass/Kentucky Bluegrass
Also known as: JUNE
Use
The Allergen, Grass, June Grass/Kentucky Bluegrass test is used to detect allergen-specific IgE antibodies to grasses such as June Grass/Kentucky Bluegrass. Measurement of these antibodies can assist in the diagnosis of allergic diseases and guide allergen avoidance strategies. The test helps to identify sensitization to specific grass allergens that may contribute to allergic reactions like hay fever or asthma.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided during specimen collection. Separate serum from cells as soon as possible, preferably within 2 hours of collection, and transfer to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. For handling multiple allergen orders, refer to the 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' on the ARUP website.
Limitations
The concentrations of allergen-specific IgE detected may not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results. Even when results are undetermined or low, they should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical history and in vivo reactivity. A negative result does not rule out the possibility of clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Specialization in interpreting results between 0.10 kU/L to 0.34 kU/L is recommended due to the undetermined clinical relevance.
