Kentucky Bluegrass
Use
The Kentucky Bluegrass test is designed to measure the levels of specific IgE antibodies in the serum, which are indicative of an allergic response to Kentucky Bluegrass pollen. This test is useful for diagnosing allergies and determining hypersensitivity reactions in patients exposed to this specific allergen. Allergic reactions to Kentucky Bluegrass can manifest as rhinitis, conjunctivitis, or other allergic symptoms.
Special Instructions
Ensure the blood sample is collected in a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. Specimens should be sent promptly to the lab to maintain stability, as prolonged holding can affect test results.
Limitations
This test specifically detects IgE antibodies to Kentucky Bluegrass and does not evaluate other potential allergens. False negatives can occur in patients with low IgE levels or those undergoing treatment with immunosuppressive drugs. Additionally, cross-reactivity with other grass pollens may occur, potentially affecting specificity.
