Clonidine, Serum or Plasma
Also known as: Catapres®, Kapvay®
Use
Therapeutic drug management
Special Instructions
The serum or plasma must be separated from cells within two hours of venipuncture to ensure specimen integrity. The testing is typically performed using liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS-MS), providing high sensitivity and specificity for clonidine detection in biological samples.
Limitations
Trough levels are most reproducible and provide the most reliable results; hence, timings of collection around these periods might be necessary for accurate monitoring. Transportation beyond three days at room temperature may degrade the specimen, necessitating refrigeration or freezing for longer storage.
