Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), Quantitative, RNA PCR (Nongraphical) With Reflex to Genotyping
Also known as: HCV Real-time PCR With Reflex to Genotype, HCV RNA Quantitation With Reflex to Genotype
Use
Quantitation of hepatitis C virus with reflex to HCV genotype if viral load is >1000 IU/mL
Special Instructions
This procedure is intended for a single testing event and does not support serial monitoring of viral load. For continuous monitoring, a different test order (Test No. 550100) is required. It's necessary to ensure accurate specimen handling, including immediate centrifugation and proper shipping conditions, to prevent delays and maintain sample integrity.
Limitations
The test quantifies HCV RNA over the range of 15 IU/mL to 100,000,000 IU/mL. It may not accurately quantify levels outside this range. Caution is advised for low viral loads (<1000 IU/mL), especially as the assay may have specific performance limitations at such levels. Additional reflex tests may be required, which could impact turnaround time. Samples must be handled correctly to prevent rejection due to improper anticoagulants or failure to centrifuge plasma preparation tubes.
