Lacosamide
Also known as: Vimpat®
Use
Lacosamide is a functional amino acid specifically synthesized as an anticonvulsant drug. In addition to being approved for use as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial-onset seizures, it is being investigated as a treatment for diabetic neuropathic pain.
Special Instructions
Do not use gel-barrier tubes for specimen collection, as they may lead to significant drug absorption and inaccurate results. Ensure serum or plasma is properly separated and transferred to a plastic transport tube to maintain specimen integrity.
Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by LabCorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA, indicating it may have limitations in official recognition and application standards compared to FDA-cleared tests. Additionally, the use of gel-barrier tubes is discouraged due to potential drug absorption, which may impact the assay accuracy.
