Mycoplasma genitalium, NAA, Swab
Use
Detect Mycoplasma genitalium
Special Instructions
Vaginal, endocervical, or urethral swab specimens must be collected using the Aptima® Swab Specimen Collection Kits. Specimens should be collected and handled according to the detailed instructions for each swab type to ensure accurate results. Failure to follow the correct procedures may result in specimen rejection or inaccurate test results.
Limitations
The test is specific to Mycoplasma genitalium and will not detect or differentiate other infections such as Chlamydia trachomatis or Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Interfering substances present in the specimen may affect the accuracy of the test. Additionally, a negative result does not rule out Mycoplasma genitalium infection as it might be present at levels below the detection limit, or the specimen might have been improperly collected or handled. Cross-reactivity with other Mycoplasma species is not fully characterized.

Collection Instructions
Remove excess mucus from the cervical os and surrounding mucosa using the cleaning swab (white-shaft swab in the package with red printing). Discard this swab. Insert the specimen collection swab (blue-shaft swab in the package with green printing) into the endocervical canal. Gently rotate the swab clockwise for 10 to 30 seconds in the endocervical canal to ensure adequate sampling. Withdraw the swab carefully; avoid contact with the vaginal mucosa. Remove the cap from the swab specimen transport tube and immediately place the specimen collection swab into the transport tube. Carefully break the swab shaft at the scoreline; use care to avoid splashing of the contents. Recap the swab specimen transport tube tightly.
Storage Instructions
Maintain specimen at room temperature or refrigerate (2°C to 30°C).
