Oat
Use
The Oat test measures the specific IgE levels to help diagnose allergic reactions to oats. It is used to assess an individual's allergic response, guiding clinicians in managing and treating allergy symptoms and conditions related to oat exposure.
Special Instructions
Ensure the specimen of serum is collected in either a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. Stability of the specimen at room temperature and refrigerated is up to 14 days, while frozen stability is up to 3 months. Specimen is stable through up to 3 freeze/thaw cycles.
Limitations
The Oat test may have limitations in detecting low levels of IgE associated with mild allergies. Interpret results in conjunction with clinical findings and other tests, as cross-reactivity with other cereal grains may occur. Use caution in results for patients with high total IgE levels, which can lead to false positives.
