Prolactin, Six Specimens
Use
This test is utilized for the evaluation of prolactin levels across multiple sequential specimens. It is helpful for diagnosing and managing conditions related to prolactin imbalance such as prolactinomas, hypothyroidism, and other endocrine disorders. The test involves collecting multiple (six) specimens to measure variations in prolactin secretion patterns over time, aiding in a more comprehensive assessment of prolactin levels.
Special Instructions
Please refer to the directions for Sequential Sampling to ensure proper collection and handling of multiple specimens. Sequential sampling is critical to achieve accurate results.
Limitations
The test may be limited by improper sequential specimen collection, improper specimen handling, or delays in transport which could affect prolactin stability. Variability in individual prolactin secretion patterns may necessitate comparison with serial testing results over time. Other factors, including stress and medications, can also affect prolactin levels and should be considered when interpreting results.
