Protein Electrophoresis, Serum With Reflex to IFE, Serum
Use
Evaluate disease categories as acute or chronic inflammation, liver disorder, hypogammaglobulinemia, possible monoclonal gammopathies
Special Instructions
The test includes serum protein electrophoresis and an automatic reflex to serum immunofixation (IFE) if an M-spike is present or an abnormal pattern is observed. Additional charges may apply for the reflex test.
Limitations
Protein electrophoresis and immunofixation have limitations, including the inability to detect proteins present at very low concentrations and potential interference in samples with marked hemolysis or lipemia. Ideal sample integrity might be compromised by these factors, affecting the accuracy and reliability of the test results.
