Monoclonal Protein Study, Serum
Also known as: IFE SPEP
Use
The Monoclonal Protein Study, Serum test aids in diagnosing and monitoring multiple myeloma, some B cell lymphoproliferative disorders, Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia, AL amyloidosis, and light chain deposition disease in conjunction with other laboratory and clinical findings. It identifies, quantifies, and characterizes monoclonal proteins, making it useful for initial diagnosis and throughout the treatment phase of patients with monoclonal gammopathy disorders.
Special Instructions
Preferred test is Protein Electrophoresis with Reflex to Immunofixation, Serum (2002109). A copy of the graph will follow the final report.
Limitations
Interpret results with caution as repeated temperature fluctuations (refrigerated-frozen-ambient cycles) may adversely affect the validity of results for some assays. Ambient conditions are unacceptable for stability after separation from cells.
