Sweet Potato
Use
The Sweet Potato IgE test is used to detect IgE antibodies specific to sweet potato allergens in the patient's serum, which can help in diagnosing food allergies related to sweet potatoes. The test measures the level of specific IgE that may contribute to allergic reactions, such as hives, itching, or anaphylaxis, upon consumption or exposure to sweet potato.
Special Instructions
The test uses Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® technology for the detection of IgE antibodies. Patients should ensure that specimens are not subjected to more than three freeze/thaw cycles to maintain sample integrity.
Limitations
Test results should be correlated with clinical history and other allergy testing for comprehensive diagnosis. False positives or negatives may occur; hence, results should be interpreted by a qualified clinician. The test may not differentiate between past exposure and current allergy symptoms, and cross-reactivity with other allergens is possible, affecting specificity.
