Walnut (Pollen)
Use
The Walnut (Pollen) test is used to detect the presence of specific IgE antibodies to walnut pollen in a patient's serum. It helps determine allergic sensitization to walnuts, which is relevant for individuals experiencing allergic reactions or symptoms upon walnut exposure.
Special Instructions
This test requires a serum sample collected in a red-top or gel-barrier tube. The sample should be stored at room temperature and is stable for up to 14 days. For optimal results, avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles beyond three times.
Limitations
The test is limited to detecting specific IgE antibodies to walnut pollen. False positives can occur, especially in individuals with polysensitization to other allergens. The result must be interpreted in context with the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic findings. Cross-reactions with other tree nuts might influence the specificity of the test.
