Albumin ‑ Timed Urine
Use
This immunoturbidimetric test is used to detect albumin levels in urine and assess the presence of kidney damage. It informs the prognosis and management of chronic kidney disease, especially in early stages, and has been the gold standard method since 1987, having superseded the urinary dipstick method.
Special Instructions
For a 24‑hour timed urine collection: start after the first‑morning void and include all subsequent voids up to and including the first void the next morning; refrigerate the urine during and after collection. Patients should avoid exercise for 24 hours before specimen collection as physical activity can elevate urinary albumin excretion.
