BK Virus DNA, Qualitative, Real-Time PCR, Urine
Also known as: BKV Polyoma, BK Virus Qual PCR, Polyomavirus, BK Virus DNA, Qual PCR
Use
This test is used for the detection of BK Virus DNA in urine specimens. It is commonly utilized for monitoring BK virus infection in transplant patients, particularly kidney transplant recipients, where viral reactivation can cause nephropathy and graft dysfunction.
Special Instructions
Ensure that urine specimen is collected properly according to standard procedures. The test is highly specific and sensitive, but false positives may occur due to contamination.
Limitations
The test is qualitative and will not provide quantitative results. It is not intended to be used as a sole diagnostic tool and should be interpreted in the context of clinical findings and other laboratory data. False negatives can occur if the virus is present in very low quantities or if there are technical issues during specimen collection or processing.
