Cytosolic 5’-Nucleotidase 1A (cN‑1A) Antibody (IgG)
Also known as: MUP44 AB, cN1A, sIBM, Inclusion Body Myositis, Anti-IBM
Use
This assay detects autoantibodies against cytosolic 5’-nucleotidase 1A (cN‑1A, also known as NT5C1A), which are highly specific biomarkers for inclusion body myositis (IBM). A positive result strongly supports the diagnosis of IBM, though sensitivity is moderate due to a substantial proportion of false negatives; hence, a negative result cannot exclude IBM entirely. This test serves as a diagnostic aid in distinguishing IBM from other myopathies.

Limitations
The sensitivity of anti‑cN‑1A autoantibody detection is variable and may miss many cases of IBM, making a negative result insufficient to rule out disease. Different methods (e.g., ELISA, line immunoassay) offer variable performance metrics and lack standardization, affecting comparability across laboratories.
