Gastrointestinal Pathogen Panel, Real-Time PCR
Also known as: Enteric Pathogen Panel, GI Panel, Chronic Diarrhea, Unresolved Diarrhea, Gastroenteritis
Use
The Gastrointestinal Pathogen Panel, Real‑Time PCR is a multiplexed, qualitative nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) that simultaneously detects genetic material from common causes of infectious diarrhea—including five bacterial groups (Campylobacter spp., Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Vibrio group, Yersinia enterocolitica), two viruses (Norovirus GI/GII, Rotavirus A), and virulence genes for Shiga toxin 1 and 2. It serves as an aid in diagnosing acute gastroenteritis and contributing to outbreak detection when used alongside clinical and epidemiological data; it is not intended for infection monitoring.
