TORCH Panel, IgG
Use
The TORCH panel measures antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii, Rubella virus, Cytomegalovirus, and Herpes simplex viruses (HSV-1 and HSV-2). It is used to screen pregnant women for infections that could cause birth defects or miscarriage.
Special Instructions
Ensure proper specimen collection to avoid false results. Contact laboratory for specific instructions if needed.
Limitations
The TORCH panel does not detect active infection; it checks for IgG antibodies indicating past exposure. False negatives may occur if the infection is recent and antibodies have not yet developed. Cross-reactivity with other viral infections can also yield false results.
