This test is designed to detect the presence of Trichomonas vaginalis, a protozoan pathogen responsible for a common sexually transmitted infection in males. Male infections are often asymptomatic yet can contribute to transmission to female partners, and can be associated with dysuria, urethral discharge, and prostatitis. The test employs transcription-mediated amplification (TMA) to achieve high sensitivity and specificity in detecting trichomonad rRNA targets, thereby enabling accurate diagnosis and informing timely treatment decisions.
