URIC ACID, 24 HOUR URINE WITH CREATININE
Use
This test measures the total amount of uric acid and creatinine excreted in a 24-hour urine collection, enabling evaluation of uric acid metabolism and kidney function. It is useful in the assessment of conditions such as gout, kidney stones, or disorders of purine metabolism.
Special Instructions
Collect a properly refrigerated 24‑hour urine specimen, noting total volume and using the first morning void protocol. No acid preservatives should be used. Aliquot and mix well before shipping.
Limitations
Specimen preserved with acid (e.g., HCl) is unacceptable and will be rejected. Accurate results depend on complete and properly refrigerated collection, including recording total volume. Partial collections or poor refrigeration may affect accuracy.
