2,3 Dinor-11Beta-Prostaglandin F2 Alpha, Random Urine
Use
This test is used to screen for mast cell activation disorders like systemic mastocytosis, utilizing random urine specimens. Elevated levels of 2,3-dinor-11beta-prostaglandin F2 alpha (2,3 BPG) may also be observed in patients with angioedema, diffuse urticaria, or myeloproliferative diseases, even in the absence of diffuse mast cell proliferation.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Elevated levels of 2,3 BPG are not specific to systemic mast cell disease and can be present in other conditions such as angioedema and diffuse urticaria. The test's performance characteristics were determined by Mayo Clinic in alignment with CLIA requirements; however, it has not been FDA-cleared or approved.
