Bordetella pertussis Antibodies, IgG
Use
Establish evidence of infection/exposure to Bordetella pertussis, the causative agent of whooping cough
Special Instructions
Following vaccination, IgG and IgM antibodies can be demonstrated. IgG antibodies require paired sera for diagnostic purposes.
Limitations
The test may not distinguish between infection-induced and vaccine-induced antibodies without paired sera and observation of rising titers. IgM and IgA antibodies are more diagnostic of acute infection, and the presence of IgG alone without rising titers does not confirm acute infection.
