Coxsackie A Virus Antibody Profile, IgG, IgM

Use
This assay uses indirect immunofluorescence to determine IgG and IgM titers to Coxsackie A serotypes A7, A9, A16, and A24. Recent infections of Coxsackie viruses are characterized by elevated titers of IgG and IgM.
Special Instructions
Coxsackie viruses belong to the Picornavirus family and exhibit a variety of serotypes and strains. Proper specimen collection and timing are important for accurate results, particularly in detecting recent infections. If early infection is suspected, a follow-up specimen collection after 10 to 20 days is recommended.
Limitations
A positive result does not unequivocally indicate a current or recent infection. Antibodies can be present in individuals due to moderate passive exposure instead of an active infection. Hence, clinical correlation is required to avoid misinterpretation, particularly since samples collected early in the infection might not have detectable antibodies. Also, false negatives could occur if testing is not conducted at an appropriate stage of the infection.
