Coxsackie A Virus Antibody Profile, IgM

Use
This assay uses indirect immunofluorescence to determine IgM titers to Coxsackie A serotypes A7, A9, A16, and A24. Recent infections of Coxsackie viruses are characterized by elevated titers of IgG and IgM.
Special Instructions
Turnaround time ranges from 1 to 5 days and is defined as the number of days from specimen pickup to result release. Additional time may be needed for confirmatory or reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.
Limitations
A positive test result does not necessarily indicate current or recent infection as antibodies can be detected due to moderate passive exposure to infected hosts. Results should be correlated with the clinical history and other data available to the physician. Early-stage infection samples (primarily in children) may not yield detectable antibodies. If a recent infection is suspected, a second specimen should be collected 10 to 20 days following the initial one for testing.
