Use
Oncology FISH Analysis - CHIC2: Deleted 4q is designed to detect a common deletion associated with hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES), relevant to myeloproliferative and lymphoid cancers where eosinophils are elevated. Eosinophilia can manifest in several blood cancers, including chronic eosinophilic leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia with eosinophilia. The test specifically assesses for the deletion at chromosome 4q12, encompassing the CHIC2 gene, which may have prognostic relevance. Results must be reviewed alongside clinical data and other diagnostic tests, as it should not be the sole basis for diagnosing hypereosinophilic syndrome.
Special Instructions
This analysis is particularly recommended for patients suspected of hypereosinophilia and is useful for prognostic identification of anomalies. It can also serve as a follow-up when previous cytogenetic assessments have proved inconclusive.
Limitations
The test only identifies rearrangements involving the CHIC2 locus and its adjacent regions; other rearrangements involving different chromosomes cannot be pinpointed by this assay. As such, laboratory interpretations must consider clinical histories and pathological data surrounding hypereosinophilic syndrome to avoid misdiagnosis.
