Measurement of pancreatic polypeptide in serum
Special Instructions
Values obtained with different assay methods should not be used interchangeably in serial testing. Consistent use of one assay method is recommended for monitoring each patient's therapy. This test is intended for one-time use only; for serial monitoring, order the serial monitoring number 480704. Patients should fast for 10 hours before specimen collection, and no radioisotopes should be administered in the 24 hours prior to collection.
Limitations
The test's performance characteristics were determined by Labcorp but have not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Elevated results can occur after meals or exercise, and in patients with uncontrolled diabetes. Decreased results may be seen in patients treated with atropine, somatostatin, or with conditions such as hyperglycemia, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic resection, GI inflammatory processes, or chronic renal disease. The procedure cannot be interchangeably used with different assay methods or kits.

Collection Instructions
Transfer the serum into a Labcorp PP transpak frozen purple tube with screw cap (Labcorp No. 49482). Freeze immediately and maintain frozen until tested. To avoid delays, submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
Patient Preparation
Patients should fast for 10 hours prior to specimen collection. No radioisotopes should be administered during the 24 hours prior to specimen collection.
Storage Instructions
Freeze within four hours of collection.
