Use
This test assists in diagnosing dysfibrinogenemia or abnormalities with fibrin polymerization. Dysfibrinogenemia is a disorder of abnormal fibrinogen function that can lead to bleeding or thrombotic complications. By measuring the reptilase time, clinicians can understand more about the patient's coagulation status and potential fibrin polymerization issues.
Special Instructions
If Reptilase Time is elevated, then the Reptilase Time 1:1 mix will be added as a reflex test. Additional charges apply for the reflex test. Proper specimen handling and immediate freezing are necessary to maintain sample integrity.
Limitations
Reptilase time measurement may be affected by anticoagulants and certain medications. Incomplete separation of plasma cells can result in inaccurate test results. Hemolyzed or clotted specimens can lead to erroneous readings and must be rejected. The test may not differentiate between different causes of prolonged reptilase time without further diagnostic workup.

Collect in a light blue (Sodium Citrate) tube, and refer to specimen handling guidelines for hemostasis/thrombosis. Transfer 2 mL platelet-poor plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.
